Abstract
The terminology of geodesy in its formal structure is not different from other words (lexical units), but at the same time it is a system of complex lexical units of professional language. They have all the semantic and formal features of words and phrases of the language, however, appear in the lexicon of language for specific purposes, not in the vocabulary of the German language in general.
The aim of this article is to carry out a complex structural-semantic analysis of modern German terminology of geodesy, and highlight the patterns of the functioning of these terminological units. Geodetic terms refer to a special concept, are characterized by high information content, accuracy and enter into systemic relations with other technical terms.
The study was conducted on the basis of the German geodetic terms, obtained by continuous sampling of the German-Ukrainian technical dictionaries and German dictionaries. We may argue that the German terms of geodesy are created by semantic, syntactic, morphological methods and borrowing. The performance of these methods for the study of terms is primarily due to the fact that they are the most common words of popular language. Affixation is represented mainly prefixal-suffixal varieties. Analysis of terms-composites suggests that they are formed mainly from two stems. The study showed that word combination is one of the productive ways of formation of terms. Unambiguous terms of narrow specialization, which are primarily used only in geodesy and usually have no homonyms, are formed in this way.
Study of any phenomenon in the field of special geodetic vocabulary should be based on structural regularities and the system of relations within term system. However, we should not be categorical in the statement that a term is accurate and unambiguous only in its field of usage, and loses the properties of the term outside of it. Semantic fields (including the terminology) are classes that overlap. There is no division of vocabulary into semantic fields. From any semantic field through a chain of indirect links you can get to another field.
Geodesy is closely connected with physics, geophysics, electronics, radio technology, astronomy, mathematics, geography, and geomorphology.
The study of the processes of interaction in the field of terminology must be based on recognition of the fact that the field reflects stratification structure of the terminology, that is, its fullness and distribution of terminological notions according to the the layers of the hierarchy.
Geodetic research is rightly recognized as an important component of the management of the main branches of human activities. It is directly related to the measurements that can be performed on the surface of the earth, and underground.
The proposed approach to the linguistic analysis of German geodetic terminology can be used for standardization and identification of structural-semantic and functional features of other term systems, enriching at the same time, the processes of formation of professional vocabulary.
