The development of forestry terminology: lexico-semantic aspect

Abstract
Abstract. The article reveals the concept of the term and describes the process of development of terminology in the field of forestry.
The main features of the term and a number of requirements relating to it are investigated. The main functions of the term are nominative, schematic and communicative.
The term is a word or phrase, which denotes the notion of a special field of knowledge or activity. The term is part of the general lexical system of language, but only through the use of a specific terminology system (terminology).
Such features of the term are allocated: 1) systemic; 2) availability of the definition (for most terms); 3) conciseness; 4) lack of expression; 5) stylistic neutrality.
The vocabulary used within the texts of forestry can be divided into: narrow-term; commonly used words as terms; general scientific words; biological terms and terminology units of related specialized languages.
Terms used in the field of forestry can be divided into the following thematic groups: terms-objects (forest), forest products, instrument names; names of processes and actions; names of professions; terms-signs; terms that denote values.
The terminology of forestry in Ukraine began to develop in the 20's of the twentieth century. In the twentieth century. Terminological Commission was established within the Ukrainian Academy of Economics. As a result of the work of the Terminology Commission, a «Forestry Dictionary» was published. German-Ukrainian».
By its structure, the German terminology of forestry can be divided into the following groups: root words, derivative vocabulary (formed by means of fixation and conversion), complex words, phrases, abbreviations, literal conditional abbreviations, symbols.
