Abstract
Abstract. The issues of realization of the category of self-presentation in linguistics have been studied on the material of political, scientific and Internet discourses, everyday communication etc. However, means of expression of self-presentation have not been the subject of the analysis in methods of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language, which accounts for the relevance of the chosen topic.
The purpose of this research is to describe the means of realization of the category of self-presentation in Ukrainian for further study in a foreign-language audience at the Ukrainian language proficiency level of В2.
Results of research. According to the purpose, the paper describes the main functions of self-presentation in interpersonal communication, and linguistic means of its expression. The main functions of self-presentation are informative and regulatory. The first is the speaker’s desire to self-disclosure, another function is aimed at giving the message additional meanings, in particular to achieve / obtain higher status and positive self-characteristics. Self-presentation is found to be an individual’s reaction to a real or imagined stimulus driving to give certain information about yourself to others. The speaker gives factual information about himself, or something goes beyond this mental structure: tries to present himself as a person endowed with power or vice versa helpless. It is established that at the language level the category of self-presentation is realized by nouns to indicate positive personality traits / positive character traits, adjectives with positive evaluation characterizing a person or his/her abilities, adjectives with nouns to denote character traits that enhance the positive image of the speaker, verbs denoting preferences or positive attitude towards something, constructions with the negative particle not, simple sentences, similes, etc. Means of realization of self-presentation in such communicative situations as introduction, telephone conversation and interview are revealed. The described typical models of self-presentation will allow the foreigner, studying Ukrainian, to learn the features of verbalization of this category and will contribute to the formation of communicative competence.
