The analysis of the investigations scientists of the department of genetics, breeding and seed-growing them. prof. M.O. Zelensky are conducted for the entire period of it work. The historical reference is given to the scientists who headed and worked at the department. The methods, approaches, stages of performance of breeding researches, it novelty, efficiency are analyzed. The scientific schools created and functioning at the department are briefly described. The aim of all generations of breeders was creating a new initial material, high-yielding varieties and highly heterozygous hybrids of fruits, cereals, oilseeds, corn, beans and perennial legumes, development of technology for growing seed materials and their compliance with production requirements. The scientists of department closely collaborate with the SII of NAS and NAAS of Ukraine for to perform breeding tasks,, maintain scientific contacts with the institutions of Syria, China, Russia, Egypt and the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine (Kharkiv). Over the years, genetic collections of winter wheat, winter rye, corn, alfalfa, rape, and haricot have been created. There are varieties of rye winter - Kyiv forage (Zelensky M.O.), Borotba, Boguslavka, Volia, Khlibne, Dozor, Syntetik 38, NAUsin, Meta (Skoryk V.V.); winter rape -Antharia, Alyot, Synthetic, Snigova coroleva, Cleopatra (Sitnik I.D.); spring rape - Maria, Oxamith, Aira, Sirius, Otma, Sriblyasty, Anthocyan (Sitnik I.D.); alfalfa - Yaroslavna, Roksolana, Olga (Bashkirova N.V.); corn hybrids - Kulon MV, Karat SV, Odeskiy 158, TOSS 156 MV, TOSS 218 MV, NAUtilus, Ovidiy 295MV (Zhemoyda V.L., Parkhomenko A.K.), in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine today. The a three-lined middle-early hybrid NUBiSel is going the StateQualification Examination since 2017. (Zhemoyda V.L., Makarchuk O.S., Sen O.V.); to the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine were transferred, passed the identification and entered in the National Catalog: corn inbreed lines - AK 135, Ak 143, АК 145, АК 147, АК 149, АК 151, АК 153, АК 155, АК 157, АК 159 (Zhemoyda V.L., Makarchuk O.S., Parkhomenko A.K.); 18 sources of short-stem elongation of winter rye (Skoryk V.V., Zhemoyda V.L.); a collection of cold-resistant corn inbreed lines (Zhemoyda V.L., Makarchuk O.S.). The genetic and breeding methods for the creation of adapted varieties and hybrids with their subsequent DNA-certification are used and improved at the present stage of breeding investigations. The sources of frost-resistant and resistant to cold, short-stemming, resistance to diseases and pests, well-expressed adaptive properties to bio- and abiotic factors the environment. are identificating. The article is devoted to the inclusion in the university for a specialty "Breding and genetics" of talented student youth in the university.
