The paper deals with studies of phytomicrobenthos in the freshwater bodies of the Kiliya Delta of the Danube River, differing by degree of their isolation from the sea and bottom sediments type. Analysis of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of bottom microalgae has shown that there is an increase in the phytomicrobenthos species diversity, number and biomass from silted sands and grey silts to black silts. The more isolated is a water-body from the sea, the higher is the phytomicrobenthos diversity.
Keywords: phytomicrobenthos, seasonal dynamics, species diversity, number, biomass, the Kiliya Delta of the Danube River, freshwater bays
