Green plantations of kyiv parks and public gardens: problem of terminological nomination

Abstract

There has been found out that modern Kyiv greenery includes green plantations of tree, shrub and grassy plants of general, limited and special purpose that, despite the functional diversity of the flora, play the role of an important segment of recreation in the society and are focused on mutual attraction between the society and natural environment. The variety of shapes, colors, and invoices of green plantations is not only the decorative properties of plants that create a single ensemble, but also carry out planning appointments in the city’s engineering aesthetics (fire- or mud-resistant, snow-storing, landslide, etc.), participate in the process of gas exchange and sound insulation, affecting the microclimate, thermal and wind conditions, humidity, and contribute to the formation of a positive psychological state of personality.

The conducted analysis of the aggregate characteristics of tree species has confirmed the hypothesis that it is necessary to clarify the definition of the concept of green plantings. Following the classification of terms as a lexical unit of language for special needs and taking into account their nominative, signifying, and cognitive functions, we suggest considering green plantations as locally oriented, intended for all classes of the population that compositionally fill the space of recreational zones and can be freely used for the purpose of recreation. Therefore, in the lexical-semantic system of trees and shrubs names the stated terminology unit acts as a hyperonym towards grass, shrub and tree plants.

As a result of the linguistic description of the green plantations of Kyiv parks and public gardens, there has arisen another problem of the terminological nomination – valuable tree species. The lack of a descriptor of “valuable species” complicates the search for the necessary information in systems of artificial intelligence. Therefore, in the scientific discourse, the verbalization of the linguistic unit segment is devoid of coding, resulting in misunderstandings at the “consumer level” – this term combination is considered only in the context of the introduction of plants. Consequently, the lack of “valuable species” definition does not serve the benefit of the term: it complicates the theoretical explanation of the concept, leads to ambiguity, and theoretical confusion.
