The article describes the basic views of linguists on the nomination and definition of science that studies the theory and practice of language rules. Three areas in terminological development of the science about a speech culture in the Slavic tradition, in particular, West Slavic, Ukrainian, Russian are identified. It is highlighted that in the Ukrainian and Polish terminology the terms "normativism / normative linguistics" and "culture of speech" are used as synonyms. In addition, in both linguistic traditions the term "culture of speech" has several meanings, and the term "orthology" is a part of the linguist’s passive vocabulary. The term "Normativism (Norm Studies)" is recommended to linguists for active use.
Term “normativism” (Norm Studies) refers to the same formartion type as Polish Studies, Germanic studies, Bonistic Studies, Ukrainian studies, Russian studies. It is characterized by such feachers as belonging to terminology, incoherence with the contex, unambiguousness, briefness. It solves the problem of polysemy of the term “culture of speech”. This term makes sense in terms of transparency, derivative tradition and logicality.
