Abstract

The article discusses concept of «term», its peculiarities and multi-facetedness. The knowledge about terminology’s shortcomings, which emerge while translating, is generalized. The scientists engaged in study of various aspects of terminology are noticed, and range of important issues for research is outlined. Within the analysis of translation ways of fishery and aquaculture terminology according to data in English and German languages the most frequently used lexical translation methods are considered.

The term «terminology» is a language of science where morphology, word formation, syntax, style (or styles), and also facts, that are brought under the concept of linguistics of the text, and their synchrony and diachrony. On the material of various languages, scientists study the specific features of scientific and technical branch texts, the structure of the timing and the way of their formation, issues of standardization and ordering of terminology, the problem of selecting the equivalent and achieving the adequacy of translation. The terminology of fish farming and aquaculture, as an integral part of the sectoral texts of the agrarian sector, is an extremely important problem because it is not sufficiently explored.

The definition and characterization of the main methods of reproduction of the terminology of fish farming and aquaculture in the Ukrainian language contributes to the elimination of problems in the process of translation and standardization of the specified terminology, allowing the fishery complex, which was not relevant in the agrarian sector, to reach a new level and improve its position in the international arena.

This research made it possible to define the conception «term» in its linguistic and translation aspects, to highlight the characteristic features of the terminology that might prevent the authenticity of the original branch text from being translated.

Consequently, the main lexical methods for the translation of the terminology of fisheries and aquaculture in Ukrainian are transcoding, which in turn is divided into transcriptions, transliteration, mixed transcoding and adaptive transcoding and calculation. The given vocabulary has its own specifics and needs considerable skills and knowledge of an interpreter whose main task is to choose an exact equivalent in order not to distort the content of the scientific text, which does not have a creative approach.
