Abstract. Introduction. The relevance of the article is that Vasil Klym is a Ukrainian prose writer from Romania, who produced highly artistic samples of the prose word, but still remains on the periphery of scientific research.
Purpose. The purpose of the research is to outline the author’s artistic contribution and to explain the reflexive-polyphonic interpretation of reality characteristic of Klim’s characters in the novels «Mountain» and «Lighting the Flame».
Results. The obtained results allow to attribute the name of Vasil Klym to innovators, as he introduces into the artistic space techniques of intuitive cooperation with the reader, and a «silent plot» for a kind of «silence» of deep topics. In addition, the writer expresses the artistic canvas by approaches to substituting the semantic field of mystical elements, incomplete disclosure of plot branches in sections, lack of the usual «romanticization» of the meaning of death in the lives of heroes, and instead puts the protagonists’ self-knowledge.
Originality. The researched topic is valuable because it is heard for the first time in literary discourse, and enriches it on theoretical and empirical levels. The formulation of the tasks of the work allows to fully reveal the importance of the artistic voice of Vasil Klym as a supporter of the Ukrainian national idea and implementer of artistic tasks for the native reader.
Conclusion. Vasil Klym’s work is valuable in that it consolidates Ukrainian and Romanian advanced artistic features; The author proved himself in the literary space as a full-fledged and well-formed writer, and demonstrated a well-established, atypical, and original writing style. The reproduced issue of psychological dichotomy is called to «dialogue» with the reader’s consciousness, because the author uses the technique of veiled motives and plot actions, which the reader feels only intuitively. This greatly increases the conflicting value of the works. If we evaluate the author’s artistic heritage in the synthesis, we have a picture of what the artistic word should be like through the eyes of Vasil Klym, as a Ukrainian writer, a native of Romania.
