Introduction. The article investigates linguistic variance in general and syntactic in particular in terms of syntactic norm, taking into account social processes. The reasons for the emergence of syntactic variance of the Ukrainian literary language are outlined. It is noted that syntactic variants are one of the means of forming a syntactic norm, these variants testify to the improvement and diversification of the grammatical system of Ukrainian language. Syntactic variants compete with each other.
The purpose of this article is to consider dynamic processes in syntactic variance (on the example of verb control of speech verbs, mental activity, informing).
Results of the research. Verb government represents the national identity of the Ukrainian language. The subject of ambiguous interpretation was and is those singular forms of governed words that pose difficulties in Ukrainian word usage during the XX and early XXI century. and/or was different from the Russian syntactic norm. They even became an instrument of ideological struggle in the 1930s and 1980s, in connection with which some norms of verb government underwent unjustified adjustments.
In the use of verb government in the late XX and early XXI century in the context of social dynamics, we trace new phenomena: the variant series expand due to the appearance of new or those syntactic constructions that are considered to be more specific and acceptable for the Ukrainian language (predominantly reactivated syntactic constructions).
Conclusions. Syntactic variants testify to the improvement and diversification of the grammatical system of Ukrainian language. Syntactic variants compete with each other. “Victory" is earned by the option that is most convenient, most appropriate for specific communication conditions (internal factor of change) and/or for which favorable conditions are created (external influence on language).
