Abstract

Assessment plays an important role in the process of effective organization and management of students’ educational activities as well as it helps develop their self-studying skills and such qualities as responsibility and independence. That is why we need to understand the algorithm of the control organization and share experience.

We highly appreciate the contribution of scientists to the development of this important problem, but we consider it necessary to summarize the experience accumulated in higher education establishments, that will facilitate its further creative use in the educational process, which is the purpose of our publication.

While working on the publication, such research methods as the methods of analysis and synthesis of scientific literature were used to understand the nature of the problem under consideration.

Results. It is established that in order to organize the process of education effectively it is necessary to evaluate the work of students systematically during both practical classes and their self-studying. It is also found that when providing continuous assessment it is advisable to organize preliminary and topic assessment. The assessment must take into account the accuracy of the answer, the elucidation of the material, and the independence of the task accomplishment. Moreover, it is necessary to remember that there are different levels of learning, namely: the level of understanding; the level of knowledge; the level of reproductive action; the level of productive action; and level of creative action. Continuous assessment can be accomplished in two ways: in the form of frontal control or individual control, verbally or in writing, depending on the purpose of the assessment. It has been found that no less important attention should be directed to the organization of control of students' independent work, which is aimed at testing the assimilation of both theoretical knowledge and work on oral topics. The final control includes both question/answer tests and multiple-choice tests.

The originality of the research lies in the high lightening of author’s approaches how to organize different types of assessment, which is of great importance for effective educational process.

Conclusion. The assessment of students' academic achievement is a necessary element of the educational process, which allows receiving feedback from students, identifying strong and week points of students’ academic achievements, and revising the material studied. For best results, controls should be supplemented with self-control.
