Ukrainian linguistics has recently got interested in revival of the national features in the Ukrainian literary language, as well as in the limited usage of verbs with-ся in passive constructions. Therefore, the article claims for priority in analyzing functioning of the verbs with –ся postfix in the MidUpperDnieper patois that had once become the foundation for the new Ukrainian literary language. The article is based on the factual texts taped in various groups of the dialects under consideration. Such approach has enabled the detailed analysis in the verb forms with -ся postfix in actual dialectal speech and as well distinguishing the subtlest semantic meanings. The article regards functioning of the verbs with –ся postfix in the MidUpperDnieper area and grammatical meaning of the morpheme in the verbal predicates. The paper also singles out the typical features of the grammatical system of the dialect mentioned: dominating verbs in active and reflexive neutrum voice, verbs with –ся in two-component passive constructions tending for the active voice meaning and non-typical passive three-component constructions in the native language. The writing observes in texts three-component passive constructions connected with the dialect speakers’ education and occupation.
