Abstract

The article sets forth the political and legal views of the members of the Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood regarding the gender equality of women and men. The views of T. Shevchenko, M. Kostomarov, P. Kulish are analyzed; their positive attitude towards women as equal members of society has been established.

It is established that the origin of the idea of gender equality in Ukrainian legal thought, first of all, should be associated with the work of T. Shevchenko, who first drew attention to discrimination against women not only on social, national, religious, but also gender grounds. T. Shevchenko's creativity had a decisive influence on the further establishment and development of the idea of gender equality in Ukrainian legal thought.
