MICROSCOPIC CHANGES IN LIVER AND KIDNEYS AT THE FELINE INFECTIOUS PERITONITIS
Abstract
Presented results of histological investigation of liver andkidneys of 8 cats died (n = 6) or euthanized (n = 2) at the suspicion to the
infectious peritonitis on the base of results of ultrasound investigation,
polymerase chain reaction, clinical sings and hematology. Diagnosis was
confirmed at the dissection. At the necropsy there was find sings of icterus in
skin, subcutaneous fat, sclera, pleura, and things of the sero-purulent rhinitis
and conjunctivitis. All subcutaneous lymph nodules was enlarge, with yellowish
color. In abdominal cavity there was up to 500 milliliters of transparent,
viscous, light yellow fluid. The liver was covered by the fibrin deposits. Under
such deposits, there was many grayish-white knots. Similar knots found on the
kidney surface. Microscopically in the liver found things of hepatitis,
cholestasis, and degenerative changes and necrosis of hepatocytes. In
kidneys found proliferative glomerulonephritis, which in some cases
accompanied with the partial necrosis of glomeruli and destroying of some
renal corpuscles. In the renal tubular epithelium find sings of cellular swelling,
hydropic degeneration and focuses of coagulative necrosis. In kidney stroma,
find the sites of lymphocytes, monocytes and some macrophages infiltration.
In part of blood vessels registered thrombi. All this microscopic changes permit
to conclude, that the feline infectious peritonitis lead to the development of the
hepatorenal syndrome.
