BIOMORPHOLOGY OF BONES OF THE SHOULDER JOINT
OF SOME REPRESENTATIVE OF HERONS ORDER

Abstract.Theresultsandanalysisofbiomorphologicalresearchofbonyelementsoftheshoulderjointofsomerepresentativesof a heronsorderarerepresentedinthearticle. Osteometricand X-rayexaminationsofbonesoftheshoulderjointwereconducted. Digitalmaterialwasstatisticallyprocessedbymeansofcomputerprogram "BIOM". Inordertoconductfunctionalanalysis, wedeterminedtheratioofbonestructuresoftheshoulderjointtogether, whichallowedustounderstandthecertainpatternsofdevelopment. Tounderstandtheinternalstructureandplacingofcompactandspongysubstancesandthetypesofbranchingoftrabeculaeofspongysubstanceintheskeletalstructuresoftheshoulderjointofbirds, X-rayexaminationsperformed. Skeletalstructuresoftheshoulderjointoftheinvestigatedbirds’ specieshavesomedifferencesofinternalstructureconsistingofunequalthicknessofcompactsubstanceandthepresenceofdifferenttypesoftrabeculaebranchingduetosolelyinfluenceonthemthelargerorthesmallerfunctionalload, which, initsturn, iscausedbytheadaptationtothespecifictypeof a flight, itsspeedandduration. As a resultof X-raystudiespatternsoftheplacingofcompactanddifferenttypesofspongysubstanceintheskeletalstructuresoftheshoulderjointofbirdshadbeenfound. Besides, thedegreeofdevelopmentofthecompactsubstanceinthosestructureswasdefinedbyusingtheplaneradiometrymethod.
