Abstract. The most common heart disease in cats is the so-called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The causes of this disease are not sufficiently studied yet, however, a number of studies were identified genetically inherited abnormalities that could lead to the development of this disease.
Available in both domestic and foreign literature adequately described the diagnosis and treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, even know what breeds of cats are more prone to this disease, but the pathological changes and in particular microscopic incompletely described.
The aim of our work was the establishment of the final diagnosis of the death of the cat, and the microscopic investigations in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
The study was carried out in February 2016. The object of the study was the corpse of a cat.
Post-mortem autopsy was performed by the method of partial evisceration. Microscopic studies were carried out according to standard techniques.
As a result of post mortem studies, the authors established that the cat died due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Increasing heart failure caused severe venous congestion and pulmonary edema that led to respiratory arrest.
The microscopic picture shows hypertrophy of cardiomyocytes and their random location. It was also found granular degeneration of the liver, kidneys and myocardium.
