Abstract
Abstract. The notion of "norm" in modern sciences, in particular in linguistics, is one of the fundamental ones, because it has a universal character. The problem of the literary norm, despite the historical continuity, is still relevant to scientific research in various humanitarian realms.
The purpose of this article is to trace the peculiarities of definition of the concept of “syntactic norm” in the Ukrainian linguistics of the XX - the beginning of the XXI century and to clarify its scope.
The definition of a syntactic norm is one of the most important definitions in the syntactic sphere, since it has both theoretical and practical significance.
There are three basic research methods: supervision-based linguistic description, arrangement of language facts and phenomena, systemic analysis.
Result: The first attempts to outline the concept of “syntactic norm” are found in the academic papers by M. D. Gladky, where he interpreted the syntactic (in his terminology - grammatical) norm as it is in the system of Ukrainian syntax and in the linguistic tradition of the Ukrainian language.
The following attempts to define the term “syntactic norm” are reflected in the papers of the late 90's of the twentieth century. - beginning of the XXI century. It should be noted that the reason for such a long break was the external factors of the development of the Ukrainian literary language, in particular the language policy in the former Soviet Union regarding national languages.
Definition for the syntactic norm is given in the preface to the Dictionary of Reference for the Culture of the Ukrainian Language (authors - D. G. Grinchishin, A. O. Kapelyushnij, O. A. Serbens'ka, Z. M. Terlak). In particular, it is noted that one of the varieties of the literary norm as one of the central concepts of the culture of a language is the syntactic norm (these are the rules for formation of syntactic units –phrases and sentences).
Consequently, the syntactic norm is interpreted as the historically linguocultural phenomenon and the basis of the literary language, which is a set of systematic grammatical, functionally-styled syntactic units (elements) of the linguistic system that have been tested and acknowledged by society for a certain period.
Conclusions: Thus, the syntactic norm is the mechanism of regulation and the grammatical system of a literary language in general, and the “behavior” of elements of this system. It forms the notion about what is correct, normative in a concrete communicative situation. It becomes the basis for the interlocuters’ presupposition, linguistic expectations from the interlocutor and the measure of evaluation and opposition “normative – deviant –possible – dialectal”.
