The problem of rational energy use is one of the key issues in the modern world. One area of such research is the search for luminescent materials with intense red light for white LEDs.

The purpose of the study is to establish luminescence characteristics of powdered samples of BiPO4 doped with Eu3+ and Pr3+ ions; an analysis of the prospects for the use of these materials as red phosphors for white LEDs and for illumination during greenhouse cultivation of plants.

In this work polycrystalline finely divided powders doped with ions of europium and praseodymium of bismuth orthophosphate were obtained by solid phase synthesis. The structural features of the specimens were investigated using a powder X-ray diffractometer with SHIMADZU XRD-6000 diffractometer. The luminescence characteristics were obtained using a dual monochromator ДФС-12. As a source of excitation, when recording photoluminescence spectra, a diode pump (λvipr = 473 nm) was used. The photoluminescence excitation spectra were recorded using a ДКсЭЛ-1000 xenon lamp and a ДМР-4 prize monochromator.

The results of luminescent properties investigations of bismuth phosphate BiPO4 doped with Eu3+ and Pr3+ions are carried out. The possibility of application of the compounds studied as light sources for greenhouse cultivation of plants.

It is found that in the cases of ВіРО4 doping with both Eu3+ and Pr3+ ions studied samples reveal intensive red luminescence at room temperature. Both emission and excitation spectra determined by transitions in rare-earth ions and in the same time no emission and corresponding excitation of phosphate host was not observed. Among all radiative transitions in case of Eu3+-doping lines of 5D07F2transition better fits to absorption spectra of chlorophyll. There is correlation between bands 3P03H6 and 3P03F2 in case of Pr3+ ions with corresponding bands of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b.

A coherent analysis of the luminescent properties of doped with europium and praseodymium BiPO4 together with absorption spectra of chlorophylls suggests that the investigated materials are promising red phosphors for agrobiological applications.
