Corporate land use and impact on sustainable development of agriculture
Abstract
The tendencies in the land use of the corporate enterprises characteristic feature of which is to increase the area of agricultural land in large-scale enterprises are considered. The character of economic activity of corporate structures of the holding type is revealed. It was defined that purpose of corporate activity is to increase the production of export-oriented agricultural products. Based on the analysis of empirical data concerning results of the corporate sector activity it has been established that excessive increase in land use is not always a proper condition for increasing efficiency of production. It has been shown that agricultural holdings cause a largely destructive effect on the achievement of the goals of sustainable agricultural development, which is manifested in: monopolization of land lease and agricultural products markets, narrowing of economic opportunities for developing small and medium forms of farming, worsening ecological balance of agro-landscapes as a result of the use of a monocultural type of production.
