Abstract. Today in Ukraine the main task is to reduce significantly the expenses of the fuel and energy component in the cost of heat supply services in municipal heating systems and in the manufacturing of products in the industry by replacing natural gas with solid fuels from renewable sources (especially from secondary resources - waste of forestryy, which aren’t used nowadays).
In Ukraine, which is dependent on the import of business wood, it is impossible to directly use the technologies and equipment of the leading countries in the direction of thermal energy use of wood with partial preservation of its primary structure (firewood, logs, wood chips), and therefore it is necessary to create its own technological system.
The purpose of the study is to develop a method of fire-safe long-term storage of crushed wood waste and their partial dehydration, with their subsequent use as intended.
Today, heaps that store wood chips are considered by worldwide experts to be the most dangerous in terms of the possibility of spontaneous combustion during storage.
The results of a study of 1.5 years on a scale close to the industrial conditions allowed to substantiate the method of fire-safe storage of the most problematic green fuel chips in open air heaps.
Key words: green fuel chips, thin wood, spontaneous combustion, compost mixer
