Introduction. In the process of the language study scientists created a number of linguistic methods, divided and grouped them according to certain peculiarities and specificity use. Investigation of peculiarities of syntactical units in general and single-member sentences of subjective in particular make the use of certain methods and approaches.
Purpose. The aim of the scientific article ‒ is to define basic and partial methods of investigation of single-member sentences of subjective in linguistics; to analyze the use of certain methods and approaches, to underline their importance and expedience in the use.
Results. The whole complex of scientific principles, forms and ways of scientific activity which are used for interpreting the essence of certain linguistic phenomena and the processes connected with them, make the base of methodology. As a rule several methods and their methodologies are used in a wider or narrower way in consecutive work to get objective results of linguistic investigation. The methods of investigation of single-member sentences of subjective are directed first of all to describe two sub-grammars ‒ representation sub-grammar and appeal sub-grammar. Hence the descriptive method is the main and the most important instrument in the study of peculiarities of building and specificity of functioning of nominative and vocative constructions in the modern Ukrainian literary language.
A number of methods are indispensable such as‒ the method of classification (to define model variants of every noun group), the method of explanation description (it is used in case of a detailed explanation of essence of this or that linguistic phenomenon), the method of transformation analysis (to reveal subtle semantic differences), the method of linguistic modeling (there is not an object in the center of the investigation but its analogue or model), and also such methods of scientific study as observation, comparison and generalization (for a full and detailed description of representation and appeal sub-grammars).
For interpretation of specificity of single-member sentences of subjective, defining their syntactical position in the modern Ukrainian literary language, a number of linguistic approaches are used, such as functional approach that is structural-functional one that helps to reveal a certain dependence between structure and functions and on the contrary, system approach which is directed to order the simplest units in the sub-system, and those ones in their turn are placed appropriately in the integral language system; terminological approach and the approach of operating of notions, due to them the notion apparatus of the investigation is defined clearly, the content and the volume of basic notions are specified and grounded.
Originality. The first attempt was made in the Ukrainian linguistics to describe the methodology of single-member sentences of subjective investigation that makes a scientific novelty of the results of our study.
Conclusion. The character of the investigated single-member sentences of subjective in the modern Ukrainian language cause the use these scientific methods and approaches with the help of which explanation of grammar peculiarities of these constructions found precision and logicality. The described methodology could be the base for study the specificity of other syntactical units in perspective.
