Abstract

Abstract. The article investigates the structure of eponymous terms in the English language to denote animal diseases. To analyze the terminological field "animal disease" in the English language, 116 terms were selected. Structural analysis of eponyms of the terminological field "animal disease" shows the fact that in this terminological system the dominant place is occupied by two-component terms.

The purpose of the study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the terminological field "animal diseases" in the English language, to outline the cognitive factors that affect the meaning and structural features of eponymy in the studied terminological field.

Results of research. As the number of components increases, the number of terms decreases rapidly. The study showed that eponyms function in the terminological field "animal diseases" of the English language as independent lexical units and interstructural variants of veterinary terms. Possessing conciseness and international character, eponyms occupy a reliable place in veterinary terminology. The spread of eponyms in veterinary medicine terminology confirms the anthropocentrism of medical knowledge, they activate cognitive processes, serve the recipient's desire to obtain information about a scientist, indicate the scope of the specialist, his contribution to science, the historical context of his activities, the stage of science. Due to the motivated desire to obtain information, the eponym is well remembered. Thus, eponyms affect the knowledge of the world in the light of the history of science, thus they belong to the names of cognitive categories.
