An article contains research results of influence of the municipal solid waste landfills on adjacent rural areas. By the example of the municipal solid waste landfills in Myronivka was shown that wrong operation of the municipal solid waste landfills can be a cause of deterioration of quality of drinking water and sanitary and hygienic status of agricultural soils. It was demonstrated that the effect of the municipal solid waste landfills extends beyond the sanitary protection zone therefore there is a need to improve monitoring system with considering the impacts on the surrounding rural areas.
Keywords: rural areas, solid waste, drinking-water quality, sanitary and hygienic state of soil
