Abstract
ROOTING OF SMALL-FLOWERED CLEMATISES (CLEMATIS L.) GREEN CUTTINGS
The range of small-flowered clematises in the domestic market of ornamental plants is much narrower large-flowered one (individual representatives of Atragene, Integrifolia and Texensis groups), despite a number of positive properties that make them relevant for applying in greening of the cities.
The most common method for industrial propagation of small-flowered clematises is green graftage. Defining of regeneration features and improvement of this method technology is considered in proceedings of Ukrainian and foreign researchers. Described studies are solid foundation for prolongation of research in the given direction.
The investigation of small-flowered clematises green cuttings rooting depending on morphogenetic potential of cultivars influenced by growth regulators was the aim of research.
Experiments were conducted on such cultivars as Clematis viticella L., C. tibetana Kuntze., S. ispahanica Boiss. 'Zvezdograd' and C. heracleifolia DC. var. davidiana Hemsl. We used green cuttings (length of 5-8 cm) as a basic material. They were cut during flower budding from the basal (lower) part of the shoot, because vegetative buds laid in the leaf axils there. River sand was used as a substrate.
The plant material was influenced by growth regulators Emistim C, Charkor and Succinic acid by soaking in preparations aqueous solution in concentration 1 ml × l-1, 1 ml × l-1 and 0,2 mg × l-1, severally, during 17 hours.
Result of accounting rooted cuttings shows high regenerative capability (65-95% on all variants) characterized all investigated cultivars.
The best time for selection of small-flowered clematises green cuttings is phenological phase of flower budding. For surveyed clematises, it comes in late May - early June. Succinic acid is the most effective growth regulator for Clematis ispahanica `Zvezdograd` (90,6%), C. tibetana (87,4) and C. heracleifolia var. davidiana (95,2), for Emistim C – for C. viticella (83.1).
Rooting features are different for all studied cultivars. The longest (12,2-16,4 cm) and most extensive (28,4-50,8 pcs.) root system developed cuttings of C. heracleifolia var. davidiana, while shoots in all variants did not increase, whereas C. ispahanica `Zvezdograd` cuttings increased the longest shoots (49,8-81,4 cm), but the shortest roots (7,8-9,8 cm). Growth regulators in most cases positively influence on the root system branching. For ispahanica `Zvezdograd` Charkor was the most effective preparation (39.2 pcs), for other cultivars - Succinic acid (C. tibetana - 38,8, C. viticella - 14,6, C. heracleifolia var. Davidiana - 50,8).
