Abstract

SILVICULTURAL-TAXATION CHARACTERISTICS OF PLANTATIONS INVOLVING BLACK WALNUT (JUGLANS NIGRA L.) IN CONDITIONS OF RIGHT BANK FOREST-STEPPE OF UKRAINE

Increase of forest stands productivity, their quality and resistance to environmental factors; forest structure improvement has been and remains one of the most important tasks of foresters. It is based on reforestation that would correspond to the soil-climatic and forest-based conditions of management place and ensure cost-effectiveness of a forestry enterprise. Analyzing the foregoing, it should be emphasized that we conducted an analysis of silvicultural and taxation indicators of stands with the involvement of black walnut in the forest stands of different age classes in the Right-bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Areas and stocks distribution of forest stands with the involvement of black walnut according to bonitet classes, densities were determined. The dependence of timber resources on planting age was investigated.

The main value of black walnut, which is widely used in the national economy, are its wood as black walnut in size and shape of the trunks is not inferior to the oak normal, and even exceeds those values.

Methodology of the study. To the analysis of a sample taken from the database FOR "Ukrderzhlisproekt" for right-Bank forest-steppe of Ukraine with taxation velame, which is composed of black walnut.        

The results of the study. The right-Bank forest-Steppe occupies an area of 6.6 million hectares and includes the Kyiv, Cherkasy, Northern part of Kirovograd and Odessa regions, the Eastern part of Vinnytsia oblast and the southern districts of Zhytomyr region. Plantations involving black walnut area by regions is distributed as follows: Vinnytska of 40.8 ha, Kirovograd – 16.2 hectares, in the Odessa – 48.1 hectares, Ternopil – 3.9 hectares, Khmelnitsky – 17,9 ha, Cherkassy – 95,2 hectares.

The largest number of plantings in which the share of the black walnut is less than one, is a 98.6 ha (44%) and the lowest where the proportion of nuts is 3 units of 16.5 hectares (8 %).

It is established that in the right-bank forest-steppe of Ukraine stands with the participation of the black walnut by age and area distributed in the following way: the largest part is the young 112,3 hectares (50,6 %) and the middle age stands at 57.7 hectares  (26,0 %), and overmature take 34,0 hectares (15,3 %) and the least in the region of mature stands is 2.6 hectares (1,2 %).

The supply of wood plantations involving black walnut by age group are as follows: the lion's share of the stock form the young is 46.6 %, middle-aged and overmature forest stands accumulate a little more than 22 % of the stock. Ripe areas, given the small proportion of the occupied area are slight common stock (0.9 %).

Analyzing average inventory indices of plantations involving black walnut in the right-Bank forest-steppe of Ukraine, the following should be noted:

-                     the largest area of occupied spaces class I-V age, accounting for 94 % of the total area of plantations involving black walnut in the right-Bank forest-steppe of Ukraine;

-                     the maximum total stock of plantations is in the range of V class of age and 39 % of the total stock of the selected sites;

-                     change of the average stock age is cumulative to the V class of age, inclusive;

-                     plantations VI - X class of age are ambiguous indicators of stock per 1 hectares, average height and average diameter, which may be attributed to the insignificant area of land;

-                     the relative completeness of the forest stands is in the range of 0.7-0.8 with the exception of the spaces X age class, where the fullness is 0.6.

Most plantations involving black walnut in the right-Bank forest-steppe of Ukraine in the area – 56 % (of 124.5 ha) and with a stock – 53 % (10226 m³) have a bonitet.

Insights

1. On territory of right-Bank forest-steppe of Ukraine among plantations involving black walnut is dominated by young stands (50,6 %) and middle-aged plantations (26,0 %).

2. Maximum total wood stock in the stands with this wood species is in the range of V class of age and 39% of the total stock of the selected sites, due to the biological characteristics of black walnut.

3. The relative completeness of the forest stands is in the range of 0.7-0.8 with the exception of the spaces X age class, where the fullness is 0.6.

4. Most of the plantations in which the share of the black walnut is up to 4 units, increasing the fertility rate.
