The article is devoted to analysis of the attitude towards the elderly in modern society. The idea of old age and attitude towards it is studied on a sample of students 19-22 years old (n = 68) on the basis of the use of questionnaire on the study of tolerance between generations and the projective 00method of Nutten. Representations of young people (students) about the period of old age and their relation to the elderly are considered. Positive and negative stereotypes related to aging and old age in the aspect of relations between generations, assessments and attitudes of modern youth are analyzed. The authors consider the level of tolerance to the phenomenon of old age, the content and forms of manifestation of tolerant and intolerant settings in relation to the elderly in adolescence. Representatives of the third age increasingly find themselves in the position of social outsiders, therefore, the article analyzes ways of minimizing the scale of the manifestation of aeism and its negative consequences.
